Ahead of theirheadline shows @ Laylow, London 24th September and The Well, Brighton 14th October, UK alt-pop duo Nightbus drop new hazy-pop gem Smalltalk and answer our QFQs.
What was the first album you bought?
Sena: I was too young to buy at the time but the first album I remember listening to in its entirety over and over again was Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love. The first I actually bought was Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins.
Louise: Oh gosshhhh, I think it was Pink, M!ssundaztood.
Who are some of your biggest musical inspirations and why?
Sena: Kate Bush, Billy Corgan, Noel Gallagher, Tears for Fears, Doves and Massive Attack. For obvious reasons, the songwriting.
Louise: Joni Mitchell, Amy, Nina Simone, Alicia Keys, Imogen Heap, Lianne La Havas, Carole King. So many more to name. Voices who reach across and empower me.
What are some non-musical inspirations that motivate your music?
Sena: Film always inspires me to write music more than music does. I think that’s what brings in the cinematic quality to the production and writing process.
Louise: My dreams, I write them down every morning (those that I remember!), female empowerment and anything that moves me.
Tell us about your single ’Smalltalk’?
Sena: A song about being there for someone in their hours of need. When Lou was singing the outro parts I remember getting quite emotional.
Louise: It was very cathartic to write and feels like an honest first release for us, it’s beautiful to hear people resonate with it.
What have you got lined up for the rest of the year (2021)?
Sena: More releases, more writing, more of the same. But better.
Louise: YES! I’m excited to play our tracks live and to share more tracks very soon. Watch this space.
