Kiwi songstress LOVETA is here to bring the party back, and proving to be one to watch!

By Vanessa B

We caught up with glam Kiwi songstress LOVETA, A.K.A. Lauren Marshall, for some QuickFire Questions as she drops her sparkling new disco-inspired pop single “More Than Fun“, out today.

With influences ranging from divas of the 60s and 70s to YEBBA, Amber Mark, Kim Petras and Dua Lipa, LOVETA holds her own, showing great potential with her impressive vocals in a glossy production. Her music expertly blends disco and funk with modern electro-pop, R&B, and dance in an exciting yet subtle blend of nostalgia and novelty. The refrain “Don’t wanna waste no time, never know what comes tomorrow” beckons the listener to live in the moment and go with the flow, because in the end “it’s only you and I as we groove along”.

LOVETA collaborated with renowned New Zealand producer Wulfie, as well as industry heavyweight Simon Gooding (Dua Lipa, P!nk, Ed Sheeran) on the celebratory dancefloor anthem.

LOVETA shared:

It’s a cheeky and playful expression of meeting that special someone – sparks are flying and you’re ready to see where the night takes you.

Check out our QuickFire interview with LOVETA and listen to “More Than Fun” below.

What first got you into music?

Music has always been such a constant thing in my life – singing, performing, listening to different types, and writing my own. I trained in musical theatre and have been lucky enough to work professionally as a vocalist all over the world for most of my career. I’ve spent so many years singing the music of others, but have always felt like my passion was in sharing my own stories. So it’s only recently that I’ve felt ready to work full time on my original music and it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made.

Which artists are you listening to right now?

I listen to such a mixed bag of artists, and it changes all the time! But currently, my playlist consists of YEBBA, Lana Del Rey, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, and a lot of house music!

How would you describe your perfect day?

My perfect day would be waking up in a beautiful place by the ocean, making a coffee, spending the day on the beach with a bunch of friends, eating delicious food, maybe getting a massage, and then playing a live show in the evening. That would be bliss!

What is your favourite sound in the world?

I love the sound of rain on the roof at night, and ocean waves, and I am really into listening to Solfeggio frequencies at the moment… calming sounds that put you at ease and just make you feel good. Highly recommend!

What is your go-to karaoke song?

It would have to be ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ by Whitney Houston or ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ by Alicia Keys – depending on the mood. Both of these songs are special to me and have stuck with me throughout my musical journey. I’ve sung them both a million times, but they never get old!

What are your plans for the rest of this year?

My plans for the rest of the year are releasing my debut EP, writing some more music, taking a couple of trips away, and hopefully playing as many shows as possible. I’d love to book a festival slot or two over the summer months!
