Moonkay delivers alternative R&B gem ‘Sisyphus’

By Frank Bell

It’s amazing when you come across an artist that you cannot pigeonhole into just one genre. Well in Moonkay’s case, how about 2-3? This diverse and hugely talented artist and producer from London certainly has a way with words and more, and can effortlessly switch moods and genres within seconds. A multitude of releases already to his name, his latest offering ‘Sisyphus’ is dark, passionate, and moving.

Creating an atmosphere that draws you into the R&B world with the intro, a light piano line also plays in the background with a sampled vocal singing ‘what would you do, if you lost me?’ Then enters a hugely bellowing vocal of Moonkay’s, where you can hear the pain through his tonality. This is where the track goes into its own mold, with a wave of airy synths and a dark, almost hip-hop-like beat, and ‘Sisyphus’ takes flight. There are only so many words can do until you immerse yourself in this richly textured and ambient delivery, you will then be able to hear what Moonkay’s multi-genre universe is all about, and we’re here for it.
