Monks In The Wood open up about ’No Love’

Hi Monks In The Wood how are you today?

Great thanks, how about yourself?

Im fine thanks…So.What inspired you to pursue a career in music, did you always want to become musicians?

I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t playing in bands.

Tell us about your single ’No Love’.

It is a song about internal conflict. How we can look at something from one angle, maybe in an emotional state, and make a decision without looking at it from all sides. Human beings change their mind, or the way they feel so regularly that it’s hard to keep track of what is right and wrong. I think I had been watching a lot of Sam Harris before writing it.

What is the writing process like and how does it develop between the members of the band?

Usually one of us come up with the bare bones of a song…a baseline, a melody or something like that and then Matt takes it away into his bubble, and brings it back out as a song. We will always have a full demo before taking it into the studio as studio time is expensive…it’s best to be prepared!

What are the themes contained within the lyrics of the song?

I think when you over analyse the lyrics as an artist, you sometimes ruin it for the listener. We tend to try and write songs that open peoples minds and let you create your own meaning. I think everyone in the band has their own specific take on what it means to them.

You are Peckham based, which is a very vibrant, creative area of London, how does the local music scene inspire you?

Peckham has certainly become one of London’s largest creative hubs over the past 5-10 years. We have a lot of artistic friends who are doing what we’re doing in Peckham at the moment, which is great feeling that community atmosphere you rarely feel in London.

Are there any local bands you would recommend to our readers?

Check out our friends Amaroun if you haven’t already!

If you could play for any band, past or present who would that be and why?

We would all LOVE to play for Marvin Gaye. The man had style!

What is a Monks In The Wood live show like?

Energetic and emotional.

What can we expect from the band throughout the rest of 2018?

We have a run of gigs through to May in London and we’ll be posting some festival dates over the next few months to. We have a single coming out in May, but for now have our single ‘No Love’ out in digital stores now.
