MISS UK Gemma Garrett and Citybeat presenter Robin Elliott are to host this year’s Big Buzz easyJet Irish Entertainment Awards. And Gemma, who was previously a promotional girl at the glitzy ceremony in years gone by says she can’t believe this year she’s taking control. The annual awards, taking place on Friday September 19 at the Park Plaza Hotel, will welcome a host of stars from the entertainment world including soap stars, sporting heroes and musicians.

Gemma, who revealed she is “most likely” turning up alone because she “doesn’t have time for a boyfriend” said she thought being asked to host was a joke to begin with.

“I have been going to the Big Buzz Awards for years, I used to work at them all as a promotional girl but never did I think I would be presenting it, I’m totally over the moon about it”, she said.

“I’m really, really excited about hosting”.
Since being crowned Miss Great Britain earlier this year, the Belfast beauty has been working non-stop, jetting off to glamourous photo-shoots and being an ambassador for the UK.

But when Big Buzz asked Gemma to host the awards she jumped at the chance.

She said: “Since I became Miss Great Britain my year has been just up and down.

“I’ve done some really interesting stuff but I never really get the opportunity to do something good in Belfast.

“The Big Buzz Awards are totally what Northern Ireland needs because there is so much talent here.

“We have all these amazing things coming out of Northern Ireland, I think Big Buzz actually finds these people when they aren’t known yet, pushes them forward and gives them a chance.  I’m really behind it”.

Every year the Big Buzz Awards sees celebrities such as Boyzone star Shane Lynch, Myleene Klass, Christine Bleakley, Take That’s Mark Owen, Eamonn Holmes, Vanessa Feltz and even novelty stars like Timmy Mallett and Leo Sayer take to the stage.

The 9th Annual Big Buzz easyJet Irish Entertainment Awards take place at the Park Plaza Hotel on September 19, 2008.

The Big Buzz easyJet Awards are unique because they are the only awards that are voted for entirely by the general public and last year received over 200,000 votes.
