Japanese folk / electronica artist Mieko Shimizu has been working through the lockdown by providing awesome Monday night Instagram live sessions where she’s been exploring the melting pot of cultures and influences that inform her bold and eclectic music.

She’s also just dropped a new remix of her elegant single Butterfly and it’s an intriguing combination of gritty basslines, electronics and floating vocals. Mike Lindsay of Mercury winning band Tunng is on remix duties and the track is set around the ideology of the story that when people die, they turn into a butterfly which comes and says goodbye before they leave this world.

With such a cool philosophical concept and sound, it’s a good thing that this track has been refreshed and put out into the world again in a slightly different form for those that missed it when it came out on Mieko’s recent album I Bloom.
