Grime pioneers Meridian Crew were a key force in driving the UK grime scene forward in the UK in the early 2000s before each member went on to pursue individual careers. But the crew have now reunited for the first time in over a decade for the release of Man In Meridian. The track was originally performed as freestyle as part of a pirate radio grime set during their initial run but it’s now been revamped and re-produced by Dre Minor.
The legendary release is accompanied by an impressive video directed by Coldshots that was filmed on the Meridian Estate where the crew formed and spent their formative years. Speaking further on the release, crew member Bossman Birdie says: “Man In Meridian is one of the most important grime tracks to come out of the genre to date. It’s the essence of the culture and the first time you get to hear 90% of Meridian together swinging it out on the same record. With everyone locked into their own solo endeavors, it was madness getting the verses over the line. But we all wanted to give the fans something sick for the support over the years. This is the start of some much-needed fire to come from this legendary collective.”
This is hopefully just the beginning too. Their forthcoming documentary, Blood On The Pies: A Meridian Story, is expected to be released at the end of the month – watch the trailer here. In the meantime, Man In Meridian is out now to buy/stream on all platforms.
