It’s not often you get a real sense of warmth when first wrapping your ears around a song nowadays. There’s always too much going on with an overriding synth or delayed vocal that completely distracts you from the song’s essence and what it’s about. This however, is not the case with Dorset born singer-songwriter Martin Weston. His new single Loose Knit Heart is one of the most welcoming songs you’re likely to hear this year, and we all need a bit of that after what has taken place in this past year or more.
Loose Knit Heart is a folk-pop song for the ages. Martin’s warm vocals draw you in from the very start, with the constant finger-picked acoustic guitar providing a simply lovely backdrop. The light percussion and shakers again bring that real sense of togetherness, and the song is ridiculously catchy too. You can certainly hear a young Nick Mulvey in the making here, and who would argue he can’t reach the same heights.
