Maddy Storm’s impressive debut Mini-LP Forced Extrovert was written, recorded, and produced by Maddy herself in her bedroom. ‘Forced Extrovert’ is an assured tour de force, it’s clear that the forward-thinking music artist from Manchester is carving her own lane of extraordinary pop music.

Each track embodies the celestial example of Maddy’s unapologetic approach, flawlessly weaving from gritty contemporary hyper pop to shimmering complex yet urgent and catchy melodies.

“I’m dead set on making everything I do matter – explains Maddy – I have been deliberate with every decision I’ve made when it comes to this mini-LP, even ensuring the tracks flow into each other with the intention to create an experience.

We had the pleasure to catch up with Maddy for a quick interview recently.

It’s alarming that only approx. 2% of producers are women, I want to do everything in my power to change that.

If you had to describe your sound in three words what would they be?

Pretty punchy pop.

What do you want people to take away from listening to ‘Forced Extrovert’?

I put hours and hours into creating a body of work that best represents where I’m at as a producer and artist and more importantly as a person, so I hope that people find parts of themselves within it, feel seen and validated by it, and if neither of those things apply; I hope they want to turn it up louder and listen on repeat.

Written, recorded, and produced by yourself in your bedroom, tell us about the Forced Extrovert’s musical journey.

This project started with the song ‘Mattress’, I wrote and produced it in about an hour and it really set the tone for the whole record sonically. My aim was for ‘Forced Extrovert’ to be an experience, it opens with a reversed sample of the third track, ‘Spit Me Out,’ in a bid to welcome you into what’s to come. There are moments of hyper pop and references to 60s folk, it’s a culmination of everything that has ever influenced me and an intimate self-portrait (which I mirrored in the album artwork). The title ‘Forced Extrovert’ is explaining my experience as a musician, as a child, I was extremely shy, but being an artist requires the capacity to be outgoing and social in order to perform and share what I make, so it is something that I had to learn. It’s now out of my hands and into yours – I just hope everyone loves it at least half as much as I do.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I’d change the inequality and inequity, in all areas. My aim is to represent female producers and change the perception of what a ‘producer’ is. It’s alarming that only approx. 2% of producers are women, I want to do everything in my power to change that.

If you were a drink, what would you be?

A margarita, 100%.

What’s next for you?

More music, more shows, and critical acclaim (manifesting that daily).
