Kent-based artist Lily Madison turns emotional uncertainty into hazy guitar-driven soft rock on her new single This Is It.
Drawing from the melancholic warmth of The Sundays, The Cranberries and Fleetwood Mac, the track explores the courage required to take a personal risk without knowing whether it will lead to connection or loss.
Built around guitars, bass, drums and tambourine, This Is It began as Madison tried to find the confidence to be honest with a friend. She studied The Sundays’ chord work during the writing process, using those melodic foundations to develop a sound that also carries traces of Smashing Pumpkins and Hole’s softer material. Madison explains:
It means trying to become a risk taker after being scared of the unknown and the uncertain.
That tension gives the title its double meaning: it could represent the moment everything falls into place—or the point at which something important begins to disappear.
Raised in Kent’s close-knit gig scene, Madison is building a vulnerable songwriting identity. With more music planned, This Is It turns her ’90s influences into something distinctly personal.
