Stand Up To Cancer at London’s Union Chapel on Feb 1st 2016, it will be a very special night of musical entertainment – featuring Kodaline, James Morrison, Seafret, Dagny, and Daniel James – to raise vital funds to support scientists working in NHS hospitals, cancer centres, universities and institutes, speeding up research to get treatments and tests to UK patients who so desperately need them.
The compere for the evening – a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 – will be lovely and esteemed TV and radio presenter Edith Bowman.
Charmfactory’s Lorraine Long explains: “Having seen artist Daniel James’ personal battle with cancer in 2014, I was inspired to undertake a challenge to run 12 x 10K races ( justgiving.com/Lorraine-Long ) in aid of Cancer Research UK to help raise money for the charity. The final race will be January 31st 2016, rounding off a year of races and only a mild knee ache!
Thankfully Daniel has had the all clear and this show will be his return to the stage. It was during one of the races that I was inspired to put on a gig to raise more money for the charity. Working alongside an incredibly supportive team at Charmfactory, Kilimanjaro, Stand Up To Cancer Cancer Research UK and the incredible artists involved and their teams, this event has come together like a dream.”
Claire Rowney, director of Stand Up To Cancer, said: “We’re really excited about this event and thrilled to have the support of so many wonderful musicians, it’s set to be a great night of entertainment. We’ve made amazing progress against cancer in the past few decades but one in two of us in the UK will develop cancer in our lifetime so we can’t afford to stand still. All the money raised on the night will go directly to Stand Up To Cancer’s work to accelerate new cancer treatments and tests and ultimately it’ll help save more lives.”
