Returning with their first single since emerging from lockdown, Drax Project’s newest track, Crazy, is a retro-sounding pop-funk anthem that is certain to become an upbeat dancefloor hit.
With an electronic beat that’s as feel-good as it gets, Crazy jumps into the action immediately, as lead singer Shaan Singh’s outlandish, bravado-drenched vocal performance merges perfectly with the endlessly buoyant instrumentation behind it. Accompanied by a music video from acclaimed director Phoebe Gittens and Arty Papageorgiou, the new singles sound and style acts as a homage to 80s club funk artists from Rick James to Cameo, to the modern pop stars like Bruno Mars today.
Speaking of the release, and their collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer Grey, the band said: “Crazy is great fun to play and even more fun to dance to. We’ve always had a ton of respect for Grey, so it was a really cool experience to work with them on this track.” The group also sought help from Grammy Award-winning mixer, Tom Norris, to help put together this earworm beat that you just have to dance to.
With the singles from their debut album hitting 400 million streams, Drax Project have gone from buskers on the streets of New Zealand to modern-day pop and RnB stars. With Crazy coming as part of an EP released later in March, it should be exciting to see where the band will take us next.
