Berlin-based singer/songwriter Kitty Solaris has just released Peace Train, the second single from her upcoming album James Bond, available on July 19, via her own label, Solaris Empire.

Evoking the peace themes of the late ’60s and ’70s, the intriguing accompanying music video for Peace Train, edited by Jonathan Mayer, skillfully combines historical footage from the Prelinger archives with newly shot scenes in Berlin’s eclectic streets and gardens, including the alternative cultural hotspot, Villa Kuriosum. This artistic blend serves as a visual echo of the song’s thematic depth, exploring peace, activism, and historical reflection.

In a revealing quote, Solaris shares her personal inspirations: “I’ve always been fascinated by Woodstock, the Beat Generation, and the history of the hippie movement ever since I first saw a Woodstock documentary on television. While strolling through Berlin Kreuzberg, I came across a ‘War is Over’ poster in the park. It is an original art action by John Lennon and Yoko Ono from long ago. What a brilliant idea, and it is still valid today! More video influences include Martin Luther King’s life and work, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Gandhi, and Nelson Mandela.”

Renowned for her sharp, direct songwriting, Solaris draws inspiration from influential bands like Sonic Youth, The Cure, The Velvet Underground, and Cat Power. Peace Train blends the synthesizer-driven style of New Order with the spirit of the hippie movement.

The song’s lyrics, “Walk in the shoes of your enemies, what would you do – what would you say,” encourage empathy and reflection, echoing the peace-driven messages of icons like John Lennon and Yoko Ono, and the cultural ethos of Woodstock. This new single not only showcases Solaris’s adeptness at blending musical influences but also her commitment to delivering messages of peace and understanding through her music.

Kitty Solaris’s Peace Train is a call to action—a musical journey back to the roots of activism, infused with the modern twist of ’80s synth-pop. As fans eagerly await the release of her new album James Bond, Peace Train sets high expectations for what promises to be a thought-provoking and sonically rich collection.
