We caught up with Los Angeles native rapper and independent label owner Keyron this week for some QuickFire Questions as he promotes his original single, Problematic.

Who are some of your biggest musical inspirations and why?

Some of my biggest musical inspirations are DJ Quik, Pete Rock, Barry White and Public Enemy. These artists are generational icons who have paved the way for me and others to be more than just one dimensional. They have proven it themselves that you can do it all.

What changes would you like to see happen in the music industry?

I believe the changes I’ve always wanted to see in the music industry are already taking place with artists becoming independent business owners and establishing their own fanbases. This will allow artists to make business deals with major labels and distributors that will not put them compromised circumstances creatively or financially.

What do you hope your fans take away from your music?

I hope my fans will take from my music my authenticity and be able to relate to my own life experiences so they’ll know that they can survive anything and thrive to become the best version of themselves.

What has your musical journey been like so far?

My musical journey has been great. Every opportunity for me to create a project has presented a chance and challenge for me to learn something new.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

The best advice I’ve been given is to never become one-dimensional. Don’t rely solely on being an artist. Own your own record label. Learn how to write, produce, engineer, and master your music so you can maintain financial stability for the rest of your life. It’s hard work but hard work is required to be successful no matter what you choose to do in this life.
