Kamera QuickFire Questions

"A lot of our music and art, in general, comes from the idea of reimagining something that already exists."

Enigmatic North London alt-electronic duo Kamera answers some QuickFire Qs and shares their lush new track ‘On Borrowed Time’ ft Belgian based singer Aslihan Kyle. The intense tune comes with an equally intriguing visual.

The duo explain: On Borrowed Time is about trying to prolong a situation you know can only end to your detriment. You’re in limbo, bargaining with yourself thinking ‘it’s not turned sour yet, maybe I can keep this up?’. But the negative outcome is inevitable, you’re just being willfully ignorant of the fact.”

Kamera Fame Magazine QuickFire Qs:

What was the first album you bought?

I believe it was ‘Surfer Rosa’ by Pixies whose album cover caught my eye in a local charity shop. I had never heard of them before this encounter.

‘Shadows Collide with People’ by John Frusciante

Who are some of your biggest musical inspirations and why?

Most of our influences come from artists that follow a more minimalist aesthetic. Artists like Nicolas Jaar, Céu, and Burial are able to express detailed emotional landscapes through carefully crafted to-the-point instrumentation, giving the listener the space to develop their ideas.

On the other hand, we appreciate the intricate story-telling and lyrical metaphors of modern Folk artists like Haley Heynderickx and Marika Hackman.

What are some non-musical inspirations that motivate your music?

A lot of our music and art, in general, comes from the idea of reimagining something that already exists. This doesn’t necessarily mean a pre-recorded sample or an old film but rather also a pre-conceived idea that we like to twist into something new.

Tell us about your single ‘On Borrowed Time’ ft Aslihan Kyle?

On Borrowed Time is about trying to prolong a situation you know can only end to your detriment. You’re in limbo, bargaining with yourself thinking “it’s not turned sour yet, maybe I can keep this up?”. But the negative outcome is inevitable, you’re just being willfully ignorant of the fact.

What have you got lined up for 2022?

We don’t want to give too much away but you can expect more music for sure. 2022 for us is about releasing more material for people to connect with. You can expect this to be presented in a variety of mediums.
