Julia Wolf Takes ‘In My Room’ To No. 1 On Billboard Alternative Airplay

Julia Wolf’s rise is starting to move beyond streaming metrics and into one of music’s more traditional discovery systems: radio.

The Long Island-born singer-songwriter has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart with In My Room, becoming the first woman of 2026 to top the chart.

The result places Wolf among a relatively small group of female artists to have led Alternative Airplay, alongside names including Alanis Morissette, Billie Eilish, Lorde, Sinéad O’Connor and Lola Young.

The milestone follows a busy summer that has increasingly connected Wolf’s digital growth with major live audiences.

She recently appeared at Reading & Leeds, following performances at Lollapalooza and a guest appearance during YEAT’s California show.

Wolf also released summer single DEEP END and has continued expanding her collaborative network across music, with connections including Drake, YEAT, John Summit, Maggie Lindemann and fakemink.

Her audience now stands at around 8.1 million monthly Spotify listeners, while her Instagram following has passed 450,000.

That momentum is also translating into touring.

Wolf is preparing for a major run across North America and Europe, including two nights at London’s KOKO, with several shows already moving into larger venues following increased demand.

The significance of In My Room reaching No. 1 goes beyond another chart milestone.

For FM PRO TECH, it shows how artist development is increasingly working across multiple discovery layers at once: streaming creates scale, festivals build physical visibility, social platforms sustain audience attention, and radio can still push a record into a broader mainstream ecosystem.

Wolf’s 2026 trajectory is a useful reminder that alternative success is no longer built through one gatekeeper. The artists breaking through fastest are moving between platforms, radio, live performance and fandom simultaneously — and making each channel amplify the others.
