Jools Holland and Status Quo at historic Carrickfergus Castle

Carrickfergus CastleThis summer has already seen the massive success of Glastonbury, Slane and AC/DC at Punchestown.

For too long has Northern Ireland been without a flagship summer event geared towards the entire family.

No longer – CDC Leisure in association with Carrickfergus Borough Council will be throwing the mother of all August Bank Holiday Parties – Live at the Castle.

With a line-up tailored to appeal to music fans of all ages, the two day event will feature some of the world’s most talented musicians playing within the shadows of historic Carrickfergus Castle.

Friday the 28th of August’s show will be headlined by Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, while veteran rock outfit Status Quo close the weekend on Saturday the 29th.

Jools Holland has brought together one of the tightest bands in the world for his live show, including legendary Rockpile guitarist Dave Edmunds and guest vocalists Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall. Best known for his well loved BBC2 show, Jools sure knows how to throw a party as anyone that’s watched his annual New Year’s Hootenannies can tell you.

Support comes from the hugely talented Paul Carrack who has worked with everyone from Roxy Music to Mike and the Mechanics and rising Dublin Rockabilly singer Imelda May, who has been charming audiences across the globe with her repertoire of classic standards and self penned songs.

Saturday the 28th sees the return of veteran rockers Status Quo to these shores. Status Quo have released more UK hit singles (a whopping 63) than any other band during the course of their 40 year career. Quo opened Live Aid in 1985, hold the Guinness world record for most stadium shows in a day (4 huge venues in 11 hours, 11 minutes) and have played over 6000 shows. So this will be a great show.

Support comes from one of the best bands on the festival circuit – Ireland’s very own Saw Doctors. Consistently selling out venues across the globe, the Docs never fail to deliver.

Further down the bill we have the bluegrass meets heavy metal stylings of Hayseed Dixie. AC/DC, Thin Lizzy and Metallica songs like you’ve never heard them before!

And speaking of Thin Lizzy, the premier tribute to Dublin’s finest; Tinn Lizzy will also be in attendance. And kicking off the gig in fine style will be Carrickfergus’ own guitar talent Simon Mc Bride.
