Jonny Ong, the Singapore born, London based singer-songwriter and musician, opens up on his dreams and ambitions, people misconceptions, inspirations and recording at Abbey Road studios.
What is the most common theme in your songwriting?
Love and escapism.
What dreams or ambitions would you like to achieve (doesn’t have to be music related)?
The dream is to buy myself a private island where I can just write music and go fishing. It’s my ambition to make that a reality!
What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about you?
That writing music is a hobby. It’s my whole life, I can’t imagine doing anything else!
What was the first album you ever bought?
By The Way by the Red Hot Chili Peppers
Who are some non-musical inspirations who influence your music?
Quentin Tarantino, George Lucas, Clint Eastwood.
They are all such inspirational people who worked hard at their craft and
achieved their dreams against the odds. The art they made has all been
super influential, to me and to the rest of the world.
What has been the most memorable moment of your career so far?
Definitely recording at the legendary Abbey Road studios. I’m a massive Beatles fan so that was really special for me!
What can we expect from you over the next 12 months?
More music! Always more music – I am constantly writing. I hope to release a full album soon as well. Meanwhile, stream my latest single Chloe, and keep sharing the love!
