Jesse Slack’s Oughta Be Outlawed was co-written with Daryl Scott and CJ Stevens. Slack’s song marks his first official foray into the world of modern country music, something he had always intended to do: A fresh, trendy, and energetic track that’s perfect to blast out loud.

The Canadian country rock singer-songwriter explains: “We were going for a live band feel but also wanted to add traditional country western elements to give the listener a nostalgic, familiar feeling”.

Slack’s new take on outlaw country has something unique about it – the mix of lap steel, B3 organ with drums, bass and electric guitar make for a sound that is uniquely his. The track stands out in its own special way.

Slack’s music has a lot of influences from country culture and it really stands out in their lyrics.“The way she moves / To a Waylon song / Neon flashing / Like the cops got called.”

This new song is a continuation of his last hit, Before It Was A Memory. The track got a lot of love from both media and fans, talking about nostalgia and reminding us to make the most of our lives while we still have time.

Jesse Slack divides his life between Ontario and Nashville, referring to himself as “born with a country soul and raised on rock and roll.”
