Following some extensive touring, Cape Town’s own Jeremy Loops uses time at home during lock-down to deliver a lively feel-good EP with ‘Souvenirs’. At a short and sweet 19 and a half minutes, the EP goes down like a refreshing yet warming ginger beer and proves to be a solid addition to the folk artist’s growing repertoire.

United through their shared love of music, the opening track ‘This Town’ sees Jeremy collaborate with legendary choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Speaking on ‘This Town’, Ladysmith said: “We would like people to get a sense of self-worth from the song and to be encouraged to work towards what they want in life and be patient and know that it will all work out in the end and don’t be shy to ask for help if things are tough.”

The EP also features a previously released single titled ‘Postcard’ – a joyful acoustic track as well as a beautiful acoustic rendition of ‘Let It Run’ displaying the best of Jeremy’s soothing vocal delivery. Jeremy seems to be able to brighten even the dullest of days with his optimistic tone.

When asked about ‘Souvenirs’ Jeremy states ‘I remember at the start of the pandemic last year feeling frustrated. I had my album nearly finished and a huge tour in support of it in the works and then boom. Just stuck at home,’ Jeremy Loops explains. ‘Once that sinking feeling of my plans getting screwed cleared, I saw an opportunity. I asked myself what type of music I’d want to make given there was no pressure or expectations or even a tour, and especially because I knew we’d push my full-length album back.’
