Jack Daniel’s to bring legendary bass player Peter Hook and I Am Kloot to Belfast

The JD Set is a series of nationwide live music events featuring cutting edge talent that’s storming the underground. Jack Daniel’s will be bringing together this staggering line up of artists by way of celebrating their well-respected musical heritage that spans over a century.
The next JD Set destination is Belfast where Manchester’s finest I Am Kloot will be performing at the city’s Spring and Airbrake venue.

The JD Sets are taking place in six major cities throughout the UK. November saw stunning sets from Vincent Vincent and the Villains, Friendly Fires and The Courteeners amongst others at London’s Luminaire. Then, in the early days of 2008, Newcastle hosted The Wombats, Make Model and Kubichek! amongst others at The Cluny. At the beginning of March, the Spring and Airbrake in Belfast played host to electric performances from Foals, The Subways, Delays and Boy Kill Boy amongst others.
The JD Set special guest, the legendary bass player Peter Hook, has been presenting two shows in each city, and even performed with some of the bands on the night. He treated fans by joining The Wombats on stage for ‘Backfire At The Disco’ when the JD Set hit Newcastle and the live track now appears on limited editions of The Wombat’s new single released on April 14th. Hooky also collaborated with The Subways on ‘Oh Yeah’ at the Belfast JD Set at the beginning of the month.

Peter Hook commented:
“If I were to choose a musical icon from Northern Ireland, I would definitely choose The Undertones. They played their first ever gigs with Joy Division when they were just 15 years old. They were getting letters from their parents on tour!

We played Belfast back in 1984 which was obviously a difficult time for the city historically. But the crowd were just fantastic; they left everything at the door and just went for it. Belfast has changed so much since then and it is a city with a really healthy music image. I DJ there often, and I always have a great time!”

The JD Set double bills will form part of a bespoke Channel 4 series currently being broadcast. Peter Hook is joined by Channel 4 TV Presenter Rick Edwards and various music industry aficionados during the series to discuss whether these bands are fit to take on the heady mantle of musical icons of the future.

2008’s JD Set programme will see 40 bands take to the stage across the course of this programme of live events. Together with the shows already announced, further JD Sets will be announced in Belfast, Glasgow, London, Manchester, Newcastle, and Nottingham. The next JD Set in Belfast will be on Sunday 4th May.

The JD Set launched in 2002 to celebrate Jack Daniel’s association with quality music, which started when Mr Jack himself created the Silver Cornet Band back in 1892. In its illustrious five year history, the JD Set has played host to artists such as CSS, Kate Nash, Cold War Kids, Hot Club De Paris, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, The Noisettes, Editors, Maximo Park, Elbow and Turin Brakes.
