Introducing PENNY

“My debut single Sad Puppy is all about allowing myself forgiveness after years of not knowing real self-love. I thought I wasn't worthy of proper love, or respect, all because of the way I look. How absolutely crackers is that?!"

Huddersfield-based singer PENNY is looking to break through with her dream-pop flavored debut single, Sad Puppy. The first from her debut EP later this year, the track takes us back through some of the hardest times in the young artist’s life.

A retelling of harrowing relationship experiences at Bangor university, Sad Puppy’s wistful vocal harmonies follow irresistibly up and down melody patterns throughout the charming West Yorkshire track. Having met We Were Evergreen member Will Serfass backstage after a festival gig, her “dream come true” scenario came to fruition with him producing her debut, moving PENNY from huge fan to musical teammate.

Speaking about the personal experiences described on Sad Puppy, PENNY explains how “It’s all about allowing myself forgiveness after years of not knowing real self-love. I thought I wasn’t worthy of proper love, or respect, all because of the way I look. How absolutely crackers is that?! Not living up to what society classes as ‘attractive’ is sometimes hard work, but it’s not so bad after you realize it’s all a load of superficial, patriarchal bullshit, and you can be the sexy main character too.”

Looking back on her times at university as some of the hardest of her life, the rising star turned to writing lyrics and crafting melodies to convey the feelings of abuse she suffered at the time. With Sad Puppy as just the first taste of the singer’s talents, we’re sure to be seeing much more from her in the future.
