The Fed Sisters, from Kettering, Northamptonshire, bring their own unique and enjoyable style to the stage.
Mathematics teacher Liz is full of humor while Emily, the elected counsellor, has heart. They work together marvellously and can even sing angelic harmonies or ‘filthy lyrics’, which have made them very popular in their community.
The chemistry between them makes the perfect balance, giving them a sense of calm amidst the chaos, a ‘solace amongst the madness’
Their new intimate and personal song, World Away, was written when their grandfather died in 2017, and the lyrics were inspired by watching their parents’ pain. “Please don’t fear becoming an angel, Wipe away those tears from your eyes, I will bury you inside the nature of my mind And we’ll be high enough to break the world away“.
Their Granddad Larry Fedorowycz was a Ukrainian refugee who settled in the UK post-WWII and took up coal mining, where he met Norma. The Fedorowycz family was founded.
They put together this moving melody to send a message to all ears: “The moral of this is to cherish your life, get to know your grandparents, make memories with your family, be grateful for your loved ones, and make the most of the time you’ve got together”.
The duo has released 3 singles, Puppy Love, World Away and Unconventional, which show off their impressive talents. This is just a sneak peek of what will be included in their upcoming debut EP.
We caught up with the band before they release their new single In the Sunshine just in time for summer. It was a great opportunity to hear more about them…
I’d love to add more logic to the chaos of the music industry.
Hello FedSisters, how’s it going? What’s on your mind these days?
Hello! Things are humming along at a lively tempo for us. With Emily’s focus on local climate initiatives and Liz’s relentless efforts to help her students ace their GCSE exams, our days are a vibrant blend of music, community service, and education. So, between crafting harmonies and fighting for a brighter future both in and out of the classroom, there’s never a dull moment!
After the Second World War, your grandfather Wolodrmyr “Larry” Fedorowycz made his way to the UK as a refugee from Ukraine. It was there he met your grandmother Norma and started their family. It is often very enlightening for artists to draw on family history. Has this influenced your creative output in any way? If so, could you elaborate on how that impacted you?
Absolutely, our family deeply informs our music. World Away, in particular, was inspired by the passing of our beloved grandfather. His life and spirit touched us profoundly, and we’ve poured our feelings of loss, love, and remembrance into this song. Similarly, our other tracks often echo the narratives of friends and family, grounding our music in our shared human experience.
Tell us everything we should know about your new song ‘World Away‘
World Away is a heartwarming tribute to Granddad Larry. It’s an intimate, piano-led piece drenched in emotion, for those missing someone special, reminding them that love knows no boundaries, not even death.

Liz you’re a math teacher, while Emily you’re an elected councillor, if you could change anything in the music industry, what would it be?
Liz: As a math teacher, I’d love to add more logic to the chaos of the music industry. Equal pay for equal streams, anyone?
Emily: And from a councillor’s perspective, I’d advocate for greater transparency and accountability within the industry.
If you could tour with any musicians, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Lewis Capaldi, hands down! His humour, raw talent, and down-to-earth nature resonate with us. We think we’d create unforgettable on and off-stage memories, punctuated with laughter and potentially questionable dance moves.
If you had to describe your sound in three words what would they be?
Harmonious, heartfelt, and cheeky.
What do you want people to take away from listening to your music?
We want people to feel a little bit of everything – the laughter, the tears, the comfort in knowing that it’s okay to feel. We want our music to feel like a warm hug and a tickle fight wrapped in one! We hope it gets you through tough times, cheers you on during good times, and occasionally makes you spit out your tea from unexpected laughter. Life’s a rollercoaster and we’re here to provide the soundtrack that makes the ride a bit more entertaining!
How would you describe your personal style?
Our personal style? We’re the musical equivalent of a polite dinner conversation that suddenly veers off into an unexpected debate about alien life forms. We might start off sweet and wholesome, but we’ve got a cheeky twist that keeps things interesting. And by “interesting,” we mean “has been known to make our own grandmother blush”.
Which artists are you listening to right now?
Em has always had a soft spot for Paolo Nutini, Christina Aguilera, and Corinne Bailey Rae while Liz changes it up all the time – right now it’s Billie Eilish and Aminé, but she’s always got time for ABBA.
