The music industry, like many other spheres of art and technology, is in a state of flux.
Your new single, Warning, marks a shift in your discography with its melodic deep house sound. What inspired this change, and how do you think it adds to your overall musical journey?
Absolutely, Warning does represent a significant shift in my musical direction. While I’ve always been captivated by the allure of electronic music, my inspiration for this particular sound comes from my deep admiration for industry stalwarts like Eric Prydz, David Guetta, Tiësto, Hardwell, and Martin Garrix. These music producers create music in different genres to showcase their mastery of music. Their ability to blend rhythm, melody, and emotion into their tracks has been a source of continual inspiration for me. With ‘Warning,’ I aimed to incorporate the essence of melodic deep house, which I find incredibly evocative and soulful. It’s a genre that resonates deeply with listeners, allowing for a more profound emotional connection. This change isn’t just a new sound but a reflection of my growth as an artist. By merging my passion for AI with this newfound love for melodic deep house, I believe I’m pushing boundaries, not just in terms of musical genres but in the way music is conceived and produced. ‘Warning’ is a synthesis of my journey in technology and music, and in many ways, it’s the embodiment of my dual identity as both an AI scientist and an artist. It’s a pivotal chapter in my musical journey, and I’m excited to see where it leads next.

The use of your own ‘music AI’ in the production of ‘Warning’ is intriguing. Can you share more about how you incorporate AI into your creative process, and what role it plays in shaping the unique elements of your tracks?
The integration of AI into my music creation process has been a fascinating journey. At its core, artificial intelligence, especially in the realm of music, presents a paradigm shift in how we approach the creation of melodies, beats, and harmonies. With AI, the boundaries of creativity are expanded, allowing us to venture into territories previously unimagined.
There are indeed myriad ways AI can be harnessed in music production. While some methodologies enable the creation of an entire track, others focus on generating individual stems and loops. My initial foray into AI-driven music had me producing complete tracks using my proprietary music AI model. However, I soon realized that while the AI was efficient, it occasionally rendered tracks that felt repetitive when stacked against the intricate layers of compositions crafted by seasoned human producers.
Recognizing this, I pivoted my approach. Instead of relying on AI for entire compositions, I began leveraging it to produce specific stems and loops. This gave me the foundational elements I needed, which I would then intricately weave together during the mixing and mastering phases in FL Studio. This approach is akin to how many traditional music producers operate, sifting through vast libraries of samples on platforms like Splice, searching for the perfect sound. But the distinction lies in the efficiency and precision of AI. With my music AI model, I can simply input parameters such as type, genre, mood, and BPM of the intended track, and the model instantly generates bespoke samples and loops tailored to my specifications. This not only accelerates the production process but also infuses a unique flair into the track, as the sounds are AI-generated and not sourced from commonly used libraries.
In essence, AI acts as both a facilitator and a collaborator in my creative process. It brings to the table a blend of precision and innovation, and while it might generate the building blocks, the final track’s soul, emotion, and depth are shaped by my vision as an artist. ‘Warning’ is a testament to this synergy – a harmonious blend of machine intelligence and human creativity.
‘Warning‘ carries a message about the rise of AI in the music industry. What do you believe sets your approach apart from traditional style producers, and how do you see the future of AI’s influence in music evolving?
The music industry, like many other spheres of art and technology, is in a state of flux. While the core essence of music remains the same — to express, emote, and evoke — the tools and techniques to achieve these have evolved. ‘Warning’ is more than just a musical track; it’s a symbol of this evolution, where AI intertwines with the intricate tapestry of human creativity.
What fundamentally sets my approach apart is the democratization of the music production process. Traditional music production, while rich and rewarding, often carries with it significant barriers to entry. The steep learning curve combined with the substantial financial investments required for DAWs, plugins, samples, and specialized gear can be daunting for aspiring producers. While talent abounds, the tools to channel this talent remain out of reach for many, especially in developing countries, making it a challenge for them to break through in the industry.
By integrating AI into music production, I aim to level the playing field. The goal isn’t to replace human creativity but to augment it. With the help of AI, even someone new to the realm of music can produce tracks that resonate with audiences, without the initial overheads. My vision extends beyond just my personal music production. I envision a future where music AI models are not just advanced but also widely accessible. The aspiration is to empower any creative individual with the capability to produce high-quality tracks, irrespective of their financial background or technical expertise. This way, a person’s ingenuity and vision can take centre stage, rather than their access to expensive equipment.
The influence of AI in music is only beginning. While today we are using it to generate loops, beats, and melodies, tomorrow it could be employed in understanding listener preferences, predicting musical trends, or even live collaborations between artists and AI during concerts. But at the heart of this evolution, the focus remains on fostering creativity and making music production an inclusive venture. The future, as I see it, is one where AI acts as an enabler, ensuring that anyone with a passion for music can manifest their dreams into reality.
As the CEO of Nosh Technologies, you’re deeply involved in the tech world, combating food waste and hunger through AI. How does your work in technology influence your musical endeavors, and do you find any parallels between these two aspects of your life?
The bridge between technology and music in my life is a reflection of my journey and passions. My immersion in the tech world, especially at Nosh Technologies, has always been underpinned by a desire to make a positive change, leveraging technology as a tool for betterment. Our work at Nosh, where we combat food wastage and hunger using AI, exemplifies this mission.
But my connection with technology isn’t just professional; it’s also deeply academic. With a PhD in Computer Science and a specialization in Embedded Machine Learning, I’ve gained a profound understanding of the vast potential of technology, especially when channelled to serve society and fulfil personal aspirations.
Music has been a lingering passion since my childhood. Growing up in India, the dream of music production often felt distant, with the high costs of tools and the currency exchange rates amplifying these challenges. Yet, dreams have a way of resurfacing. My grounding in technology and the practical experience I’ve amassed as a C-level executive allowed me to revisit this passion. With the knowledge of how to design impactful software and the transformative capabilities of AI & machine learning, I realized I could redefine music production, making it more accessible and innovative.
Indeed, there are parallels between my tech ventures and my musical pursuits. Both are fuelled by creativity, innovation, and a desire to make a lasting impact. Just as we use AI at Nosh Technologies to address societal challenges, I harness AI in music to break barriers, democratize production, and introduce novel soundscapes. My experiences in leading a deep tech company have enriched my understanding of AI’s potential and have emboldened me to venture into new terrains, like the music industry.
In essence, my dual roles are not contrasting but complementary. Each realm informs the other, creating a synergistic interplay that enhances both my technological endeavours and my musical creations.
Your musical influences include iconic artists like Eric Prydz, David Guetta, Tiesto, Hardwell, and Martin Garrix. How have these artists shaped your musical style, and in what ways do you aim to innovate and differentiate yourself in the electronic music scene?
My journey into electronic music began with the magnetic allure of Tiesto’s techno, trance, electro, and deep house tracks. The rhythmic pulses, captivating beats, and emotive melodies resonated deeply with me, firmly anchoring my love for the genre. Tracks like “Call on Me” by Eric Prydz, “Titanium” and “Sexy Bitch” by David Guetta, and “Animals” by Martin Garrix weren’t just songs I enjoyed; they were anthems that defined significant chapters of my life during my teenage years and early 20s.
These iconic artists have played a monumental role in shaping my musical palate. They demonstrated the limitless possibilities that electronic music offers, especially the art of crafting soundscapes using Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs). Their ability to evoke emotions, tell stories, and create experiences through synthesized sounds inspired me to dream of producing similar tracks.
Yet, while their music serves as a foundation for my creative endeavours, I’ve always aspired to bring something unique to the table. With the extensive knowledge I have in the tech sphere and my hands-on experience with AI, I’ve been able to merge my passion for electronic music with the transformative power of artificial intelligence. Unlike traditional electronic music production that often requires sifting through vast libraries of samples, I leverage AI models to generate samples and loops based on specific parameters, infusing efficiency and a distinct touch to the creative process.
In essence, while I am deeply influenced by these legendary artists, my differentiation lies in my innovative approach to production. By merging the world of AI with electronic music, I not only fulfil a teenage dream but also introduce a novel method that reshapes the boundaries of what’s possible in the music production landscape.
What is your favourite sound in the world?
Without a doubt, my favourite sound in the world is the sound of running water. There’s a certain magic to it that captivates me every time. Water, in its essence, is such a versatile element. Fluid in nature, it effortlessly takes the shape of any vessel it fills, perfectly adapting and flowing with grace. Its power lies in its duality — it can be immensely destructive, yet at the same time, it possesses the ability to heal and rejuvenate.
When I hear the sound of running water, it evokes a myriad of emotions within me. Sometimes it’s a gentle reminder of nature’s delicate balance, and at other times, it stirs up memories of places I’ve been and moments I’ve cherished. The sound resonates with me on a deeply personal level, much like the fluidity of music. Just as water adapts and changes, music too has the power to evoke, transform, and heal. It’s a sound that grounds me, inspires me, and constantly reminds me of the beauty and complexity of the world we live in.
If you could have a super power what would it be?
If I were to choose a superpower, it would undoubtedly be the ability to spread peace, end wars, and instill compassion in everyone’s hearts through my music, reminiscent of the powers of Black Canary, who uses her sonic voice to control and influence those around her. Music has always had an ineffable quality to it. If you’ve ever been to a music festival, you’ll immediately notice the overwhelming sense of unity and joy it brings out in people. It’s a place where strangers come together, dancing to the same rhythm, sharing the same joy, and caring for one another in the purest form. Music, I believe, holds the power to transcend boundaries and reshape mindsets. It can bring about happiness, quell the storms of negativity, and foster a sense of unity. My dream is to harness that power and amplify it, so that the world becomes a place where hunger, conflict, and hatred fade, replaced by understanding, love, and care.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
Without a doubt, the one song I wish I could have written myself would be ‘Titanium’ by David Guetta featuring Sia. It’s not just a song; it’s an anthem of strength and resilience. Its powerful lyrics and stirring melody resonate deeply with me. During my teenage years, I faced a myriad of emotional challenges. It was a phase where the world seemed daunting, and there were times when it felt like the weight of those challenges might break me. But every time I listened to ‘Titanium,’ it instilled in me a sense of empowerment and reminded me of my own inner strength. The song gave me the courage to face my situation head-on, to rise above the challenges and emerge stronger. The raw emotion and the message of resilience and self-belief that ‘Titanium’ conveys are truly timeless, and it’s a song that I believe empowers listeners from all walks of life.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a musician is the unparalleled joy of spreading love and happiness through my creations. Every time I see someone lose themselves in my music, be it on the dance floor or in a quiet introspective moment, it reminds me of the power and influence of art. Recently, I had the privilege to DJ at several venues, and the sheer euphoria of watching people dance, celebrate, and enjoy to the beats of my tracks was indescribable. There’s an incredible sense of fulfilment in knowing that my music can serve as an escape, even if just for a few minutes, from the rigors of daily life. The smiles, the energy, the positive vibes – they are a testament to the beauty of musical expression. And on a lighter note, being a musician gives me an added advantage – I love to party! So, playing my own tracks at parties not only lets me share my passion but also lets me indulge in one of my favourite pastimes.
What can we look forward to next from you?
There’s a lot in the pipeline that I’m incredibly excited about. One of the highlights you can look forward to in the upcoming years are several collaborations with talented artists and music producers. These collaborations are a testament to the incredible synergy of combining traditional artistry with the power of AI. Additionally, I’m driven by the quest to explore and experiment.
