Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your latest single, ‘Can’t Let Go,’ and how it fits into the narrative of your musical journey?
Can’t Let Go is a deeply personal track that draws inspiration from profound introspection, and complexities of human connection.
Many people believe that there is a soulmate for them, someone they are destined to be with. In our mind’s eye, we can almost visualise their appearance.
We hold onto the notion that we would instantly recognise them, whether across a room, on a train, or in a store. At every social gathering, we can’t help but wonder if they will be present, if tonight is the night our paths will finally cross.
This profound sense of connection and anticipation can feel incredibly real, making it exceedingly challenging to release, to let go.
In terms of my musical journey, Can’t Let Go represents a maturation of sound and thematic exploration. It stands as a testament to my evolution as an artist, showcasing a willingness to delve into the more nuanced and vulnerable aspects of the human experience.
Ultimately, Can’t Let Go is a piece of my heart, transformed into melody and verse. It is an invitation for listeners to join me on this journey of reflection, connection, and growth.
‘Can’t Let Go‘ is described as an autumnal anthem. How does the changing season influence your creative process, and do you find that your surroundings impact the mood of your music?
For me personally, the transformation of seasons acts as a catalyst for change and evolution in my creative journey. The autumnal backdrop provides a rich tapestry of colours, scents, and sounds to draw inspiration from.
The shift in surroundings certainly plays a pivotal role in shaping the mood of my music.
Autumn, with its meditative ambiance, often leads to music that is more contemplative, nuanced, and layered, reflecting the complexity and depth of this season.
In crafting Can’t Let Go, the autumnal influence is evident in the song’s melancholic undertones and the warmth of its arrangement, mirroring the season’s nature of beauty, capturing the moments of joy and the sentiments of longing.
Your debut single, Gotta Play Your Cards Right, received acclaim on both local and international radio stations. How has your musical journey evolved since then, and what lessons have you learned along the way?
Securing airplay on both local and international radio stations can mark a substantial achievement. This exposure can contribute to expanding your fan base and open up opportunities for collaborations, particularly given the current dynamics of the music industry and the diminished involvement of record labels. However, it’s worth noting that while receiving acclaim doesn’t directly influence the evolution of my musical style, it does provide a motivational boost, encouraging me to persist and release more songs.
As a singer-songwriter, you explore themes of love, relationships, loneliness, and lust in your music. How do these personal experiences shape the stories you tell through your songs?
As a singer-songwriter, the exploration of themes such as love, relationships, loneliness and lust in my music stems directly from my own life experiences and the universal emotions they evoke. These themes are integral to the human experience, and delving into them allows me to connect with listeners on a deep, emotional level.
Collaborating closely with producer Anton Fauve, how does the collaborative process unfold, and how has this partnership influenced the sound of your music?
It is always a challenge to find a collaborator who is on the same wavelength as you, especially in terms of song selection, musical taste and the ability to complement each other’s ideas. We strive to work together towards the common goal of creating work that both of us can be proud of.
Looking ahead, you express a desire to collaborate with A-list DJs. Can you share more about your aspirations in this direction and how you envision your music evolving through remixes?
Collaborating with A-list DJs represents an exciting frontier in my musical journey, offering a unique opportunity to blend my signature style with the innovative soundscapes of electronic music.
My goal is to create a synergistic fusion of genres, where the emotive storytelling of my songs is enhanced by the dynamic rhythms and textures that A-list DJs bring to the table.
Working with established DJs opens up avenues to connect with broader audiences, introducing my music to listeners who may not typically engage with my genre.
I see these collaborations as a way to tell stories in new and exciting ways. The addition of electronic elements and remixing can bring a different emotional colour to a track, highlighting aspects of the song that might be subdued in its original form.
DJs have a unique ability to manipulate sound to evoke specific emotions. Through remixes, I hope to accentuate the emotional journey of my songs, whether it’s amplifying the joyous highs or delving deeper into the melancholic lows.
I’m excited to explore how electronic elements can add texture and complexity to my music, creating a sonic experience that is both familiar and refreshingly innovative.
