Inbal Quickfire Questions

Having already made a name for herself as a songwriter for Israel’s Got Talent winner Yael Danon, as well as her previous single We Just Said It All, West London’s Inbal has been making waves yet again with her latest single One Step. With influences that range through Jeff Buckley, Radiohead and Björk, her newest offering is a genre-bending slice of joy that we simply can’t get enough of.

So with her profile building up yet again, we took the opportunity to find out more about the blossoming young multi-instrumentalist, such as her non-musical inspirations and what she has planned for the rest of the year.

What was the first album you bought?

The first album I purchased was the ‘Revolver’ album, by the Beatles. I think I was about 9 or 10 and I was totally enchanted.

Who are some of your biggest musical inspirations and why?

I’d have to go for Jeff Buckley, Radiohead and Bjork. I’m very much aware that I’m creating music that does not resemble their style, but the soundtrack of my early 20’s was theirs and I owe a lot to their records for inspiring me and making me want to become a better musician and songwriter. The emotion and inspiration that those artists evoked in me has remained over the years.

What are some non-musical inspirations that motivate your music

Before pursuing my musical career I actually worked as a Spokesperson and in the PR field, which I really enjoyed. Although it might sound odd, there are a few similarities between those fields and music. In particular, using your creativity to move or inspire others into action.

Tell us about your new track ‘One Step’.

Writing and producing One Step was one of the most fun and easy-going experiences I’ve had in recent years! When I wrote it, it just came to me very quickly and I think it has to be because the song was based on past events in my life that I’ve had time to mull over in my head a lot. I was in Tel Aviv when the song was created and I met with friend and producer Shai Brander, who immediately got my intention and the feel I was after with the song, so work with him was fun, effortless and we finished the production together in 2 and a half days!

Past ‘One Step’, what can we expect from you for the rest of 2019?

I’m going to be a mum quite soon so One Step is going to be my last musical baby for 2019, but there’s more to come around spring of 2020.
