How Role Model and Hydro Flask Are Bringing Reusable Merch Into Music Culture

Artist merchandise is moving beyond clothing, vinyl and collectibles. Hydro Flask and singer-songwriter Role Model are testing a more functional category with a limited-edition reusable drinkware collection connected to music, touring and sustainability.

Inspired by Role Model’s third studio album, Chuck Timely & The Hourglass, the eight-piece collection is the second artist-led release created through Hydro Flask’s partnership with Universal Music Group.

The wider programme aims to reduce single-use beverage waste across UMG studios, songwriting sessions and live events, positioning reusable products inside the everyday infrastructure of the music industry.

Colours, graphics and engraved details across the bottles reference the album’s visual identity. The range launched alongside Role Model Presents: Chuck On Tour, beginning in Hydro Flask’s hometown of Bend, Oregon.

Role Model also helped shape the accompanying campaign with longtime collaborator Ky Newman, extending the album’s creative world into a commercial format without separating the product from his established visual language.

Being able to outfit the whole band and crew with reusable bottles cuts down on waste to really make an impact while we’re on the road. We also got to run with the creative for this campaign, so it just felt like me and Ky doing what we normally do. – Role Model

The collaboration arrives as artists and labels explore merchandise that operates beyond traditional fan products. Reusable drinkware offers practical value on tour while giving brands another route into album campaigns and artist-led storytelling.

The bigger test will be whether partnerships like this can deliver measurable reductions in single-use waste across music spaces.

Limited-edition products can carry a sustainability message, but their real impact depends on whether reuse becomes part of touring and studio operations. Not simply another item at the merch table.
