British-Vietnamese indie-pop artist Hangoza is bringing the twisted world of modern culture to life with his latest EP, Gen Z. The four-track release expertly utilizes shoegaze ambient pop to tell the tale of the trending Gen Z lifestyle and how it can damage a person and their sense of self.

Covering a varied scope of relevant topics from online culture, the world of contemporary dating, and the new laser focus on self-identity, Hongza offers a refreshing, realistic commentary that encapsulates the dream-pop aesthetic presented to hide the darker side of the experience. The indie-pop genre is the perfect soundtrack for discussing these somewhat mature themes as it provides a real juxtaposition that mirrors the real-life participation of it all.

Whilst each track maintains a sense of self in terms of content, they are all tied together. With understated basslines, mesmerizing vocals, and tonal perfect ambient pop, Hongza creates a soft soundscape that maps out the more profound topics in a starkly honest way. Gen Z feels like a form of escapism, not from the issues at hand but rather the perception of those experiencing them. Never feeling played up or pretentious, Gen Z is grounded in raw honesty and genuine observations.

Overall, Hongza has created a soundtrack for what feels like the universal occurrence that those of a certain age live and breathe daily but elevated it to an ethereal level.
