Post-punkers Fifteen Minutes formed in Dublin City in 2003. Founding members Rob McGlade and Adam Steele, Fifteen Minutes’ vocalist and drummer, have seen line-ups come and go as the band toughened and tightened to the solid 4-piece unit it is today, with Luciano Passavanti on bass and Fionn Walsh on guitar completing the band.
Scraping together the money to buy an 8-track recorder the four guys banged down over 60 songs in a 12 by 9 foot space, that they affectionately call ‘The Shed’. This single’s B-side tracks ‘Plugged In’ and ‘Vacuum Girls’ were recorded in ‘The Shed’, which accounts for their authentic sound. As Rob explains: “When we write a song our approach is very natural.
We rely on our instincts and the element of chance in order to create something spontaneous, using sensation, improvisation and concentrations of reality. Ninety percent of the songs that we currently play were an outcome of the aforementioned process and although we are satisfied with the finished product, you sometimes feel that it has lost its initial vitality; that moment when you feel something. These recordings from The Shed are exactly this… unrehearsed, real live performance”.
2008 saw Fifteen Minutes play their first nationwide tour across Ireland in support of their new tracks. Top DJ Paul McLoone, current singer with The Undertones, showed his support for the band, placing ‘Another Self Portrait’ as one of his favourite tracks of the year.
2009 has seen the band set out on a new venture, setting up ‘The Mix Tape’, an alternative night for great music and exciting bands. The Mix Tape has seen Fifteen Minutes perform in top Dublin venues Radio City and Whelan’s, leading on to the band’s impressive headline slot at long-running Radio City event Revolver. The band has also begun work on the recording of their debut EP, ‘Triptych – Inspired By Francis Bacon’, due for release in April 2010.
Fifteen Minutes are landing on English soil for the first time over the next few months, promoting their debut release ‘Another Self Portrait’ across England and Scotland. The tour will showcase the genuine alternative band’s mix of electric arabesques and outbursts of physical madness. Their raw, frantic sound is captured magically in their live shows, and the band promises to deliver both mind and ear blowing performances.
