FM Recommends: TATUM’s FEVER

Following the success of her debut single Broken…TATUM returns and delivers another slice of exquisite dark pop, with new single Fever, released via Bad Future Records.

Hello TATUM!…How are you doing?

I’m really good thank you!

Tell us everything we should know about your new (stunning) track Fever

Fever is about loving a sociopathic and a dangerous type of person while feeling so lost and chained in that toxic relationship that you accept the devastating downwards spiral and just “go with it” until the end. Like seeing an accident happen but being unable to stop it or look away. Like with my previous song Broken , Fever also highlights the contrasts in life and love. There is danger and eeriness, but also beauty in the melancholy.

What’s the best piece of advice that the good and talented people at Bad Future have given you?

To throw sensitivity and ego out the window in the pursuit of the best art. I learnt that you have to “kill your darlings” . The industry is not easy and really only the best and hardest working artists make it. So the process of working with Bad Future has been like being a tree whose branches needed to be cut in order to bare fruit…. Sometimes painful but with incredible results. Also to never copy anything that I think may go big, but to rather strive to be a pioneer and make original music that I love.

Which animal would best suit your personality?

It depends on the day of the week. I can sometimes be a fierce lion trying to win all territories, and some days,  just a sloth.

What kind of music are you listening to these days?

90’s,  80’s, then new modern music such as Lana del Rey, Billie Eilish, Labyrinth.

Who are your musical icons?

Billie Eilish, Lana del Rey, labyrinth, Adele, The Weekend are just a few of my icons…

What was the first album you purchased?

Haha! Lady Gaga – The Fame Monster . I was 12 back then. She’s still such a legend!

How would you describe your fashion style?

Relaxed… I wear whatever I love at the time.

Tell us about your next show and why we should be there

My next performance is at one of SA’s biggest festivals “Splashy Fen”. I have worked really hard on the show and it is now beautiful and theatrical. I will be performing the whole soon-to-be-released Bloodsport EP but also new songs from my next EP. You won’t hear those songs anywhere else until they are released!

What does the rest of 2020 hold for you?

We have created a lot of new music, so the releases will continue and of course we have many music videos to shoot. Now that my stage show is pretty much ready, we will do bigger shows in SA, but I also signed with Primary Talent International in the UK, so I will be touring in the UK and EU later this year.
