New Danish singer, songwriter and producer THE ROSA (Rosa Strandfort), drops ‘Love Me Back’, a highly promising, catchy soulful-pop number, taken from her upcoming second EP and released via her very own label Fort Entertainment on November 5.
‘Love Me Back’ is about “unrequited love and commitment” and it’s the perfect follow up to her impressive debut EP ‘Let Go’…Welcome to THE ROSA’s world.
Can you reveal 5 things we should know about THE ROSA?
My artist name THE ROSA is inspired by the zone I get in, when I perform or sit at the piano and play and sing my heart out and lose myself in the music. The energy in the room changes, and it becomes more about ‘it’ than me.
I released my debut EP ‘Let Go’ in February and traveled to New York City by myself, where I lived in East Harlem for a couple of months.
I strive to make music that’s soulful and has substance, music that makes people feel something.
I’ve been singing and writing songs since I was a little kid, and I don’t really remember who I was before that.
When I write my songs, scenes play in my head like a movie. Every song holds a story.
Can you talk about your new single ‘Love Me Back’?
I wrote “Love Me Back” on a vacation in Spain this summer after the most exciting and challenging year of my life. I actually dreamed about the words, and then I woke up and just wrote it down immediately and recorded the melody on my phone. The song is about unrequited love and commitment, and I use marriage as a metaphor to talk about that.
What were your influences whilst writing it?
When it comes to lyrics, I really just write whatever I feel and need to express. Life is my inspiration. But, I love singers like Alicia Keys, Erykah Badu, and Beyoncé, so that maybe has influenced it sonically. It’s hard to say though.
If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be?
Anyone? If you’re asking about dream collaborations, I would have to say that some artists who I respect very much are Kendrick Lamar, Emeli Sandé, Pharrell, Ne-Yo, Justin Timberlake, Miguel, Sia, Drake, Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, and Beyoncé.
What do you have planned next?
Right now I’m working on finishing up my second EP, which will be a follow-up, a part 2, to my first EP ‘Let Go’. It’s going to be very personal, emotional, and straight from the heart. I’m excited for people to hear it. Also, I’m going to get out and perform and give the music a new life on stage.
