FM Presents: KEESH

Following on from a string of impressive and impactful singles over the last few months, Tulsa-born but LA-based singer and songwriter Keesh recently returned to deliver his latest offering Again.

Taking influence from the likes of Tor Y Moi and Tame Impala, this warm and dreamy new gem cements him as one of the most engaging and captivating artists working today. So with his name back on our radar, we sat down with Keesh to find out more about his inspirations and what goes into his everyday life.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Guitar.  It was my mom who initially got me to pick an instrument to play when I was younger.  She insisted on only “classical’ and “acoustic” at first, but eventually I convinced her to get me an electric guitar.

What has been the most prominent inspiration behind your music so far?

Other artists inspire me. First it was the Red Hot Chili Peppers, then The Black Keys, and now Kevin Parker.  Their music connected with me on deeper levels at critical points in my life and helped me move forward.  This made me want to help other people in the same way. I am also lucky to have lots of talented artists as friends that I surround myself with constantly.  We are always talking/working on music and inspiring each other.

What kind of music did you love as a teenager?

Earlier in my teenage years it was mainly heavy rock, metal, that type of energy (cd’s from my older brother’s collection). As I got older and picked up guitar I got a lot more into funk and blues. After getting better at expressing myself through playing guitar, I was able to connect with many more styles of music like hip hop, jazz, electronic, and pop.

When you wake up in the morning, what kind of music do you like to listen to?

I enjoy some classic Jazz or lo-fi hip-hop beats for the beginning of the day.

How many of your songs have you written about people in your life?

I would say about half the songs I write have a connection with people in my life and the other half are about ideas, places, general feelings, etc.

What has been the most memorable moment in your career so far?

The first time I heard a song I played guitar on be featured in a movie. One of the coolest things that has happened to me for sure.

If you weren’t a musician, what other path do you think you might have taken?

Something in health care. Helping others either physically, mentally, or both. Keesh’s latest single Again is available to stream and download now. Check out the new video for it below.
