Hailing from Oslo, Norway, dream-folk quartet Circumnavigate, share sweetly stunning new single ‘Secret’ and present their intriguing debut album, ‘When Worlds Collide’, which is released on 14th December.

Hi Circumnavigate! Please introduce yourselves:

Hey! I guess we are best described as a 4 piece Scandinavian folk/pop band, with elements of jazz and classical thrown in. Our members are lead singer Sigrid, Carl Frederik on keys & guitar, Ross on drums & percussion and Charlie on bass.

What’s your new single ‘Secret’ all about’?It’s taken from your debut album, ‘When Worlds Collide, how was that to make?

Making the album has been a real labour of love; it has taken a few years and was recorded in different countries. The theme throughout is finding connections, community and love through barriers of language, culture and location. We had a lot of fun writing the songs and experimenting with production. We are very proud of it and excited for it to finally be heard.

You’ve been compared to the likes of The Cinematic Orchestra and Billie Marten, would you say they’re fair comparisons?

We have elements of both these artists, but don’t fit perfectly into the genre of either. That’s essentially where our name and influence comes from – we like to Circumnavigate the borders of different genres, taking influence from the likes of these artists! We admire them both, so to be considered alike is a real honour for us.

Who are your influences?

As mentioned above, both Cinematic Orchestra & Billie Marten, but to add; Coldplay, Birdy, Bon Iver & Ludivico Einaudi.

As a band you’ve individually worked with some amazing artists – Foxes, Adam Lambert, Sigala, Gabrielle Aplin… – what was that like?

It’s great! When we’re not working with Circumnavigate, our ‘day job’ essentially is playing for these amazing artists. We are all really great friends and have been in and around the industry for a long time. Playing for these artists has allowed us to travel and meet a whole collection of new friends and colleagues and has been a really great experience!

How did you guys meet?

Sigrid & Carl met at school in Sandvika, Norway years ago and bonded over a love of Coldplay & Thomas Dybdahl. They used to perform covers in school talent shows. Sigrid then moved to London to study music, where she met Ross and Charlie through mutual friends.

What are your plans for the rest of 2017?

Lots of activity around the new singles and album – gigs, radio, interviews etc. We have also started writing new music, so that is also an exciting new chapter.

Any gigs coming up?

We have a couple in the diary land a few still TBC. There will definitely be an album launch night in London mid December. Our next confirmed show will actually be at Oslo City Hall performing for the crown prince and prime minister of Norway! They are special guests at a conference which brings together leaders from politics and business to solve large, societal problems. It’s an inspiring event to be a part of!
