Enigmatically intriguing singer/songwriter and performer 11ven, was born in the eleventh month, on the eleventh day, at the eleventh hour: “With me, everything happens in elevens.” she says.
‘Only One to Blame’ is her first sultry cinematic dark pop offering, taken from her forthcoming ‘EROS’ EP (out June 15th). The single is a shining new spin on Lisa Stansfield’s 80s classic ‘All Around The World’, remixed by Eddy Atlantis.
She explains: “It’s a song I always remember hearing. I later found out that my dad – who was a DJ – went on a date with Lisa and never really got over her. That’s why the track was always playing at home!”
Of the ‘EROS EP 11ven says “I poured my heart out, I told my story, it’s not perfect but I didn’t want it to be. For me this EP was my perfect imperfection. I have so many flaws as many of us do. I have many insecurities which are hard to address. I wanted people to be able to hear the cracks. I wanted it to be human.”On Cirque Le Soir changing her life’s course…“Joining the circus let me find out who I am…Having always been a performer artist as well as a musician, I was able to merge the two. I put a huge stage show together that was both visually and musically appealing.”
With her parents divorcing when she was 6 months old 11ven, recounts that there were always sad love song playing at home. “I pretty much sing about tragedy in my life. But I quite like that – it makes me happy.”
On her overall creative direction – a combination of oldworld glamour and tribal aesthetic – she says: “I wear my jewellery like it’s my clothes”.
On her her music, 11ven says, “Even though it’s great to be a confident, sexy, fiery woman there’s no problem with being vulnerable and being insecure sometimes. I think vulnerability and insecurity make women who they are and if we didn’t have that, we wouldn’t be women.”
