Meet hük, the Brighton-based alt-rock and electronic maverick whose latest release, Warm Leatherette, serves as a tantalizing glimpse into his debut EP, friction.

The electrifying new sound of Warm Leatherette, draws inspiration from Bowie and continues the musical journey established by his recent tracks, Superpower and Norton Caines. This genre-defying composition seamlessly fuses elements of 80s post-punk, new wave, and synth with an undeniable groove of funk-rock swagger.

Speaking about the track, hük himself explains, “Hot, skintight, soaked in sweat. Machine washing is recommended – but always with a friend. A song about the fear of being in the wrong place and running out of time. Life may feel like things are stacking against you but you can always seek your salvation on the dancefloor..”

Friction, the collection of 5 tracks delves into the realms of dark post-punk electro, setting the stage for a captivating spectacle where an array of obsessive, paranoid, and inherently volatile characters converge on the dance floor. They come together, gripping cocktails of potent synth melodies and cutting-edge guitar riffs, creating a sonic experience that’s both enthralling and edgy.

Hailing from Leeds originally and now an integral part of Brighton’s emotional driftwood, hük draws inspiration from a diverse array of musical influences, including LCD Soundsystem, Gorillaz, Curtis Mayfield, Justice, Talking Heads, John Barry, and Lalo Schiffrin. In his own words, “This would be a really long list – The sound I’m chasing now is ‘an LCD / Isaac Hayes smoothie jacked up to a car battery…'”

Lyrically, hük‘s music delves into the intricate web of human identity, exploring how we are shaped by our connections and circumstances. Whether through personal experiences or the eyes of the eclectic characters that inhabit hük’s subconscious, his music is a journey into the human psyche. “I’m fascinated by why we are as we are and how easily we can come off the rails. Musically we’re talking dirty synths, frazzled funk guitar, heavy grooves and shortwave radio vocals. I just want to lose the plot on the dance floor!”

With a burgeoning fan base and an electrifying live show in the pipeline, hük is poised to make waves in the music industry. The live lineup includes hük on vocals and guitar, Leo Neelands on all things electronica and melodica, and TJ Jenn on bass.

With Warm Leatherette serving as the precursor to this musical journey, there’s no doubt that hük is a name you’ll want to remember.
