"Writing this really helped me process my recent breakup without the freedom to move on with any other elements of my life"

That Old Quiet Lighthouse keep crafting their unique and melancholic world with their latest release, Laughter. Sticking to the mission of ‘putting the emo back in wholesome’ they bring together Pinegrove’s emotionally charged lyrics and Alex G’s bittersweet sound. There are also some instrumentals thrown in there for good measure.

Sanja Cin, the featured vocalist on That Old Quiet Lighthouse’s new single is spot-on. Laughter is a cheerful indie-pop song that has hints of folk music, thanks to its tenor horn counter melodies. Sanja Cin’s beautiful, distinct voice gives the song a unique touch and it almost sounds like a duet. Her melodies represent an echo of long-gone love. Laughter is an infectious tune that so aptly conveys the oddity of breaking up without any hard feelings. It’s super upbeat and has an undeniable charm to it.

Singer-songwriter Ashley Garrod shares: “I think Laughter is probably one of the most intimate songs I’ve written, aiming to really encapsulate the bittersweet of a love ending with no hard feelings. It was written just as the first lockdown provided that horrible emotional stasis I know a lot of people struggled with, so writing this really helped me process my recent breakup without the freedom to move on with any other elements of my life.

Working with vocalist Sanja Cin was amazing, as was working with the outstanding tenor horn player Nat Martin, they both added their beautifully unique and contrasting voices which really make this perhaps my favorite tune we’ve released!”
