Mark Angels, the truly talented half Filipino half Scottish hit maker, returns with another slice of smooth & lush electro-R&B, with new track Drown.
What’s the idea behind it?
“Drown” is the sonic depiction of a toxic friendship. I wrote this in the perspective of feeling trapped in a relationship – I felt like I was drowning in their problems and it stopped me from living my best life. I wrote and co-produced this with good friends of mine – James Birt and Chris Swan.
Who are your musical icons?
I grew up listening to Soul/MoTown music, my parents introduced me to “When Doves Cry” by Prince and I was hooked! I grew up listening to Usher/Chris Brown/Justin Timberlake so I feel a lot of my musical influences come from them!
What was the first album you purchased?
The first album my parents bought me was the Black Eyed Peas – “Elephunk” . My first celebrity crush was Fergie and I was obsessed with “Where Is The Love”. My mother is Filipino and so is Apl.De.Ap so it encouraged me a lot to see someone else from where I was from being successful in music.
Which artists are you listening to right now?
I currently have an eclectic range of artists I’m listening to from KPop acts such as BTS and NCT127 all the way through to straight up pop stars like Dua Lipa and Bruno Mars!
How would you describe your fashion style?
I like to think my fashion sense is quite clean cut however when I’m on stage I tend to wear more streetwear clothing. I do love bomber jackets, I feel more free and it’s easier to dance in!
