FM PREMIERE: ‘I Don’t Listen Anymore’ by LA MERE

"Didn’t you know it’s the new punk fashion to take back your attention?”
18 August 2023

After taking a break from her music career to put down roots and start a family, LA MERE’s Meredith Sheldon returns and shines once more with her new track I Don’t Listen Anymore.

The Massachusetts artist’s track is made even more amazing with production by Anthony Saffery from Cornershop. I Don’t Listen Anymore continues her musical evolution, channelling a message of positivity over breezy synth-pop melodies and alluring vocals.

Yeah I don’t listen anymore
My ears already heard every story
Yeah I don’t listen anymore
There’s nothing more can make me worry
‘Cause no matter what they say
I’m gonna live I’m gonna live like there’s a tomorrow
And I won’t listen anymore
Ain’t got a use for that constant sorrow

This catchy electronic pop jam is the perfect blend of vibrant beats and infectious melodies that demands our full attention from the start.

Sheldon has lent her amazing vocals to Johnny Marr‘s album ‘Fever Dreams Pts 1-4′. During Marr’s tours in both the US and UK, she had the amazing opportunity to open for him. On top of that she has also shared the stage with Evan Dando and The Lemonheads, as well as MARINA and the Diamonds.

After dropping the catchy Cherry-Coloured Funk and the rockin’ Devil In The Day, both with Johnny Marr from The Smiths on guitar, she’s back with another banger.

Sheldon explains: “I am sort of obsessed right now with the idea of taking my attention back from the constant barrage of doom and gloom news and using my energy to cultivate joy, connection & creativity as a form of activism. This song poured out all at once centred around this idea and this line that came to me in the night, which is actually sort of a loving challenge: didn’t you know it’s the new punk fashion to take back your attention?”

Johnny Marr adds: “Meredith has been on my songs and on our bus since 2014. She’s the Angel of the family with the voice to match. Now I get to play on her new songs. It’s a buzz.”

Sheldon says: “Adopting the name LA MERE struck me as hilariously fitting because Mer (or Mere) has been my nickname since I was a kid but recently I put together that it also means “the mother” in French. It seemed like the right thing to take on a new name for this new chapter, seeing as the music is so different from anything I’ve produced before.

Her songwriting is inspired by the years of experience gathered along her own spiritual, physical & emotional journey, and culminating in becoming a mother in 2018.

She got the chance to support Johnny Marr‘s North American and UK tours in 2013 and 2014.

During this time, Sheldon was a total rockstar! She wrote, produced, and even self-recorded not just one, but two EPs and an LP. She worked with some real industry legends like Tony Berg and Bob Clearmountain in Los Angeles to create a full-length album. She dropped her own music in 2015, but then took a long break of almost 8 years.

She relocated to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts and joined the Barbara Brennan School of Healing at that time. She embarked on a journey of energy healing and home-birth midwifery, attending births, focusing on her own self-healing journey, and even starting her own family.

We’ll be joining LA MERE on her exciting new musical journey.
