A firm favourite here at Fame HQ, we are extremely pleased to be premiering singer-songwriter Freja Frances’ stunning new video for ‘The Funeral’ right here!
The video is absolutely beautiful from the offset, although you may need to have the tissues at the ready. Taking place in a gorgeous church, Freja looks effortless as she plays the piano and bears her soul.
The Funeral – explains Freja – is one of the darker songs on the album, it’s an imagining of losing a loved one to suicide and my feelings around these fears. It was the song I had the strongest vision for when recording, I knew I wanted to focus it around layering up backing vocals to create a kind of choral vibe. I always had the imagery of a church and cemetary when visualising this song, and was able to use amazing locations in Hove for a very atmospheric video shoot.”
‘The Funeral’, as you may have gathered from the title, is a pretty dark song, filled with Freja’s signature ability to create beautifully melancholic soundscapes throughout. It is also the title track of her debut album – also out today – which pulls at the heartstrings achingly.
Talking about the album, Freja elaborates “it’s definitely my darkest collection of songs – they were written a few years back at a time when I was struggling with depression and an unhealthy relationship. Lyrically the songs are very inspired by the indie and emo bands I was listening to at the time.”
‘The Funeral’ is out now via ShimmerSun Music.
