"I wrote The Fold with the intention of sitting down with the world-class studio musicians at Muscle Shoals and just having fun. We did just that"

In his newest single, The Fold, singer-songwriter Noah Solt continues his tradition of introspective storytelling and musical exploration, released under the Starita Records label. This fresh track signals a nuanced evolution from his past works, as it embraces a lively Americana vibe reminiscent of The Allman Brothers Band. Despite this shift, Solt’s artistic essence remains intact, with his signature themes of optimism in challenging times and lyricism rich in poetic imagery remaining at the forefront.

The Fold serves as a tantalizing preview of what’s to come from Solt’s upcoming debut album, Big Water. This collection promises a further dive into self-reflection and hope, exploring the uncharted territories of life’s unknowns. It follows in the footsteps of his acclaimed first two singles, Spheres and After All, recognized by critics and earning Top 10 placements across 250+ Spotify playlists.

Hailing from the landlocked Colorado Rocky Mountains, Solt’s musical journey took an unconventional turn during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Opting to follow his heart, he stepped away from Berklee College of Music in 2020 to become a professional sailor. As he sailed through the vastness of the ocean, his music became a steadfast companion, influencing the creation of Big Water. The album mirrors the themes of transition and empowerment, mirroring the sunrise witnessed on his boat—an inspiration that looms large in the album’s narrative.

The Fold was brought to life at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, in collaboration with GRAMMY®-recognized producer Starita. Starita, known for his genre-blending style, blended electronic elements with live instrumentation, creating a lush and complex soundscape that complements Solt’s vision. The track itself was a spontaneous creation during the last day of recording, capturing a moment of vulnerability and trust in the creative process.

Reflecting on the writing process, Solt shares, “It would be a lie to say that I wrote the chorus to the song in 15 minutes while standing in the vocal booth. In reality, I was laying down in the vocal booth feeling the pressure while my godfather, Andy Mann, had me lay on the floor to do breathing exercises as I wrote. The chorus became about giving yourself to the process and trusting yourself, even when you are afraid.” The lyrics, with lines like “Somewhere out of sight, Boarders, great divides, You’re to the wind, you’re to the fold,” encapsulate this moment of self-soothing.

The collaboration with Muscle Shoals’ studio musicians proved to be a transformative experience for Solt. Having prepared for the unique dynamics of recording with a band, he notes, “Before arriving at Muscle Shoals, the prospect of writing songs to be recorded with a band felt like something out of a dream. I wrote The Fold with the intention of sitting down with the world-class studio musicians at Muscle Shoals and just having fun. We did just that.”

Producer Starita echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of letting the spirit of the studio and musicians guide the recording process: “As always when producing in Muscle Shoals, I try to let the spirit of the studio and musicians guide the recording rather than trying to force too much of my own thoughts onto the process. The song will tell you what it needs if you’re open to listening.”

The credits for The Fold read like a who’s who of musical talent, with Wes Sheffield as recording engineer, mix engineer, and lead guitarist, Starita as the producer, and Toma Ramirez as executive producer. The ensemble includes Andy Dixon on bass, Brad Kuhn on keys, Justin Holder on drums and percussion, and Brad Guin on baritone saxophone. The album was recorded at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL, and mastered by Wes Sheffield. Cinematography and photography are credited to Tam Akiko, with creative direction also by Tam Akiko. The release is set to hit the airwaves under the Starita Records banner, a division of Starita Music.

As Noah Solt unfolds his musical journey with The Fold, listeners are invited to embark on a soulful voyage through themes of self-discovery, trust, and the resilience found in the face of the unknown. Big Water promises to be a captivating chapter in Solt’s soundscape, offering a unique blend of Americana spirit and poetic introspection.
