FM premiere. Atlanta’s Epic Levels unveils ‘House on Haunted Hill Dwarf’

"This song is whimsical, but the darkness of the evil house does have some creepy imagery like replacing your eyes with beehives or painting with your entrails. At the end of the day it’s a horror-comedy action story"

A unique musical adventure through fantasy, hip-hop, and gaming culture

Atlanta’s Epic Levels transcends traditional boundaries, merging fantasy, hip-hop, and gaming culture to create a unique musical journey. Their latest release, House on Haunted Hill Dwarf, captures the spirit of tabletop roleplaying games with charm and allure.

Dragon Warrior and Tiger Wizard, the masterminds behind Epic Levels, blend hip-hop, horror films, and tabletop RPGs into their music. With intricate wordplay and infectious beats, they transport listeners to realms of imagination. Epic Levels’ tracks explore haunted houses, mythical dungeons, and enchanted forests, celebrating nerdy nostalgia. Each song is a gateway to a world of magic and adventure.

Dragon Warrior explains: “Haunted houses in TTRPG games were always a lot of fun. Gamifying fear effects was always cool. Call of Cthulhu RPG always did a great job of building fear into game mechanics. We went a much goofier route while exploring the tropes of a haunted house movie. We introduce two characters, a tough guy fighter and a cowardly cleric, who escape a storm by entering a haunted house. It lands somewhere between the wonderfully ridiculous Vincent Price film House on Haunted Hill, the Evil Dead films, The Shining, the schlocky 1985 film House (although I prefer House II: The Second Story) and the Japanese cult classic Hausu… and some Scooby Doo.

This song is whimsical, but the darkness of the evil house does have some creepy imagery like replacing your eyes with beehives or painting with your entrails. At the end of the day it’s a horror-comedy action story.”

Tiger Wizard adds: “We were bringing a heap of movie and horror references to the pot for this one, boiling them down to make this song. Dutch Hill Mansion from Stephen King’s The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands was definitely on my mind while we were writing this one. Haunted houses in gaming can be a lot of fun if handled well. Once you stat out a ghost it becomes less scary. I like to keep the haunted shit mysterious.

I really dig the narrative this song delivers. It could very easily have been the plot line of a Fritz Leiber short story. Switching back and forth between the two main characters, and then both of us getting a chance to take on the role of the evil house was super satisfying. My favorite bits are the little conversational banter between Kilgraf and Squibley leading into and around the verses. Really gets my giggles going.”

Their forthcoming The Mega Dungeon Men EP showcases Epic Levels’ ability to blend fantasy storytelling with infectious beats. Tracks like More Than Meets the Eye and Dark Sunglasses transport listeners to a realm of magic and wonder. With each track, Epic Levels invites audiences to embark on a quest of epic proportions.

With their groundbreaking fusion of fantasy, hip-hop, and gaming culture, Epic Levels welcomes you to embark on a voyage of imagination and exploration. So, gather your dice, queue up their latest track, and get ready for an unforgettable musical trip.
