FM Meets: MILLAR JUKES

By Vasco Dega

Singer-songwriter Millar Jukes talks to us and delivers a slice of his Indie Soul Groove Blues Americana with stunning new track Home, that demands our full attention from the start.

Hi Millar Jukes! How are you today?

I’m great! Got my morning coffee on this hot summer’s day in Melbourne!

What’s your new single ’Home’ all about?

Home is about being lost and frustrated until you find that one person that makes everything ok. It’s a slow burner with a big sound. The video we made for it was shot down in Wilsons Prom which is a beautiful place and really compliments the song really well. I’m really proud of how it turned out.

The single is taken from your upcoming album, due for release next year – are there any themes running through?

It’s actually not on the album. I wrote and recorded it about 4 years ago when I was back in Glasgow for a visit and had no plans on releasing it. I felt that the song resonated with me more than ever due to Covid and me living across the other side of the world with my family still in Scotland. It just felt like the right time to get it out into the world.

Who are your biggest influences?

Ohhh I’d say Ray Lamontagne, Paolo Nutini, Nathaniel Rateliff, Jacob Banks, Samm Henshaw and the Monophonics

Describe your sound in five words:

Indie Soul Groove Blues Americana

If you could collaborate with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be

My brothers Saint PHNX. It’s been on my list for a long time but would love to make some music with them! Massive fan of Stevie and Al’s work and think we could make something awesome!

How have you kept yourself entertained during lockdown?

Watching far too much TV and playing video games. I have written 4 new songs so that’s as productive as I’ve been music wise.

What’s the music scene like in Melbourne at the moment? Any new artists you can recommend?

I love the Melbourne music scene. It’s insane how many great artists and bands are here! Every musician here is unreal and they love just playing whenever they can. It’s such a great scene. I love Squid Nebula, Quality Used Cars, Velvet Bloom, Jazz Party, The Mamas, Bumpy and Kee’ahn to name a few.

Why did you decide to move from Scotland to Australia?

I moved over for a girl about 9 years ago but it didn’t work out. I love it here so decided to stay. The weather is better here than in Scotland ha!

What are your plans for the rest of 2020?

Just going to enjoy a nice (normal as possible) Xmas with my friends’ family. It’s been a very tough year so looking forward to catching up with everyone one.

Where can we find you online?

Millarjukes.com and I’m Millar Jukes on all socials so come find me and hit me up!

Any last words?

Is 10am too early to have kfc?
