Embracing femininity, empathy, and women empowerment…Infatuated is the ideal introduction to Bella Vine’s sweetly quirky Electro-Pop bliss.

So, what’s up Bella? What’s on your mind?

Haha, in all honesty I’m dreaming up locations for where my friends and I can go on holiday this summer, hopefully not a pipeline dream!!

Tell us everything about your new single ‘Infatuated’.

At the heart of ‘Infatuated’ is someone pining over someone else. Regardless of which way the narrative portrays it, the song touches on the overwhelming sensation and domination of feeling you get when you’re infatuated with someone. I originally wrote it when recalling that exact feeling that I had towards someone, but last minute I decided to flip the narrative and make myself feel empowered rather than slotting into that age-old cliché of the pining damsel in distress. I hope that when girls listen to it, they feel equal as empowered as I did when writing and singing it and that they can embody the woman on a mission!

When did you start writing music?

I started writing a couple years ago to backing tracks that I found on YouTube, I never thought I could really do it but I just thoroughly enjoyed doing it and when I finally plucked up the courage to show a few very close people I got some lovely feedback. I guess that made me think that perhaps what I was making wasn’t all that bad!! I really wanted to give it a proper go. It was really in the first lockdown in 2020 that I started coming up with decent melodies and lyrics and later that year when we weren’t in lockdown I went into studio sessions and started finding/creating my sound and here we are.

Really liked the video. Share with us the concept behind it.

Thank you! I wanted it to be a fun, playful and feminine video, so obviously picked a pink colour theme really creating a girly vibe and atmosphere. My favourite kind of music videos are ones with narratives, a mini film if you’ll have it, so that’s what I tried to create with mine. The video portrays a man being hopelessly infatuated with a woman. Men have traditionally been displayed as powerful and are often depicted in suits to emphasis this, so in the opening scene you see me taking the tie off the man and wearing it throughout the rest of the video, alluding to the fact that I had the power over him as he was hopelessly infatuated. There’s also a segment where we use the tie in a choreographed sequence as a gentle power play/struggle, but ultimately, I ended up wearing it to mirror the narrative of the woman on a mission. I think we captured the strong effect that being infatuated by someone can have on you. It can often leave you feeling powerless. The aim of the song and the video was to make girls/women feel empowered and to embody the woman on a mission.

Which animal would best suit your personality?

Maybe a flamingo, I’ve heard they’re very social, incredibly loyal and are massive team players. I think that fits my personality quite well.

Who are your musical icons?

My musical icons ooooo, I was brought up listening to the powerhouses Whitney Houston and Madonna so I guess you could say they are my musical icons from early on. I soon fell in love with Britney Spears and Rihanna when I was growing up like everyone else and more recently I’m obsessed with Dua Lipa and what she has achieved in music.

What was the first album you purchased?

The first album I purchased was Loud by Rihanna. Although saying that I always asked for the Now CD’s and constantly wanted to go to HMV to find it when I was growing up. Every time one was released I had to have it and know who was on it, and I guess from there I would narrow down to the artists I loved and then get their album, it was like the holy grail for me and my friends.

Which artists are you listening to right now?

Mainly Dua Lipa, her album Future Nostalgia was the soundtrack to my lockdown and I still play it on repeat now, I think I might have bored my friends ever so slightly by now with it, although its safe to say they also know all the lyrics to her songs. I’m also listening to a lot of Raye I absolutely love her vibe and her music so much! She is extremely talented.

How would you describe your fashion style?

Definitely inspired by characters from late 80’s early/mid 90’s movies such as Basic Instinct, Sliver, 9 ½ weeks and also the T.V show Friends…. Uh I just love Rachel Green’s wardrobe!  So mostly that era of fashion, I do think my style is heavily influenced by my Mum, she has the most incredible clothes that she was wearing at that time which I very fortunately now have and wear.

What does the rest of 2021 hold for you?

Probably many more surprises, but hopefully the good kind, we’ve definitely been kept on our toes you never know what’s around the corner!!
