Allegra, derived from the word Allegro, meaning the musical expression for Lively, Joy and Cheerful… Her new single Do What I Want, was penned in her bedroom, which taps into the rebellious and confident streak that Allegra found in herself during quarantine.
I wanted people to get creative, I wanted people to think outside the box but I also just wanted to say thank you to my fans for all their support on my single.
Hi Allegra! How are you doing? How would you sum up your 2020 in three words?!
I’m well thank you! If I have to choose three words to describe this year they would be confusing, grounding and humbling.
Can you tell us a little bit more about your latest single, ‘Do What I Want’?
I wrote this single during lock down when I found myself always on my phone looking on social media and checking what others were doing. I wanted to break that cycle and just focus on my music, I wanted to do what I wanted, and that’s where the song developed.
And how about that lockdown challenge of rebellion – what inspired that? What would you do if you were taking part?
I wanted people to get creative, I wanted people to think outside the box but I also just wanted to say thank you to my fans for all their support on my single. If I was taking part I think I would do a video of me dancing in the kitchen and cooking something tasty.
Who are some of your non-musical inspirations? (e.g. authors, books, designers etc)
Alan Watts is a writer that inspires me. I actually listen to his inspirational talks on Spotify the whole time. There is this one particular talk that discusses what motivates you in life and it carries on to say that you should do what makes you happy. I think he’s a little hidden secret that not many people know about, so I really recommend listening to his speeches.
What are some of the topics you would like to speak about in future songs?
I like writing songs which relate to my personal experiences so that others can relate and connect to me. I think future topics will be about little moments that stand out in life and empowering people to not be afraid in wanting to be different from others.
What does 2021 hold for you? Anything coming up that we should be looking out for?
I’m hoping that my next single will come out very soon !! I’m also just focusing on releasing a lot more music and videos ! I’m working very hard and I’m going to make sure that it pays off
