Du Malai, a rising artist from San Antonio, Texas, was born in Lagos, Nigeria and grew up in the lively Bronx. His new single, Heart Bus Desire, gives us a sneak peek of his upcoming EP, which will drop on Valentine’s Day next year.

Heart Bus Despair, showcases his evolution as both a musician and a storyteller. His musical identity is meticulously crafted, blending elements of Afrobeats, R&B, hip-hop, pop, and rock.

A masterful choreographer and an unapologetic “blerd” (black nerd). Heart Bus Desire is the result of Du Malai‘s artistic vision and collaborative energy. The song takes its roots in the entrancing beat “Crash,” meticulously crafted by Namor ATL.

Du Malai‘s decision to weave his lyrics around this captivating backdrop signifies a deliberate storytelling choice – one that brings his message to life with authenticity.

When it comes to making the track, Du Malai reveals: “I heard ‘Crash’, a beat made by Namor ATL, and knew that I wanted to create a song for it. If ‘Heart Bus Despair’ is about emotional regulation, the desires journey is about seeing yourself in love. For the song ‘Desire’ I wanted to explore the hard question of loving someone in the hopes they will fulfil your needs, when really that’s an inside job not an external one.”

Heart Bus Desire has a cool concept at its core – the heart bus. It’s like a metaphor for all the different places our hearts take us.

As Valentine’s Day approaches next year, be sure to mark your calendars for Du Malai‘s EP release.
