Light a Fire is the latest single lifted from Canadian folk artist Cynthia Hamar’s upcoming album Joint & Marrow. It’s got a slow-burning country groove with a reggae beat thrown in. There’s an almost tangible warmth to this song, so vivid that you can almost wrap yourself up in it, as that heat is delivered right down to your bones.

‘’This song almost didn’t make it on the album. I was struggling to communicate my vision for the tune and I was close to pulling it feeling deeply exhausted.”

For Cynthia, the creation of this song arose out of a lack of heat – that flame of inspiration that fuels all artists. “I wrote this feeling extremely burnt out struggling with ambition,’’ Cynthia says. ‘’I was thinking how a tiny spark can set a whole forest on fire and I wrote the melody attempting to kindle some fresh creative joy inside me.”

The slow sprawl of a freshly lit fire is a fitting way to describe how this song slowly takes light. It begins as a classic folk country song, as Cynthia leads us first into the calm, clear waters of Americana with those signature twangs of acoustic guitar and her characteristic voice crackling with warmth. Then a reggae beat and that soulful organ synth kick in just before the second verse to lift our spirits, infusing the song with an invigorating spirit.

‘’This song almost didn’t make it on the album. I was struggling to communicate my vision for the tune and I was close to pulling it feeling deeply exhausted.” Cynthia says. ‘’It ended up being one of my favorites and I’m so thankful I pushed through and allowed that spark to fire up in me again. The theme of the tune was truly manifested in the recording of it.”

Light a Fire is a triumphant, celebratory track featuring Cynthia doing what she does best, as she demonstrates what can be achieved when you allow sparks of inspiration to ignite a wildfire of creativity.
