With the economic situation hitting both skiers and travel companies hard, an Austrian based ski company has come up with a solution enabling ‘credit crunch’ skiing.

Independent ski specialists Redpoint Holidays are running short ski breaks throughout the 2011 season to accommodate guests who are considering forgoing their annual ski holiday due to gloomy economic conditions.
The short ski breaks run for three or four nights and can be taken midweek or at the weekends.

By taking an early flight, skiers can be on the piste in the afternoon to make the most of the time that they have to ensure a full four or five days of skiing.

This not only reduces the cost of the holiday, but also reduces the cost of extras such as lift passes and boot and ski hire.

“Everybody knows that skiing is not a cheap holiday,” comments Nina Haskinski, owner of British company Redpoint.

“People still want to come for their annual ski holiday, but may feel that they can’t justify it in the current economic climate so we felt that being more flexible and offering shorter breaks would be one possible solution.”

With the cost reduction in lift passes and equipment hire, plus savings on the actual holiday itself, Nina estimates that taking a short ski break could save each individual in the region of £405 in low season.

“The Chancellor’s announcement last month (October) of cuts in child benefit will hit many of our clients quite hard – for a family with three children losing a projected £2,500 a year could make the difference between being able to afford luxuries such as holidays abroad.

Our guests are already quite fortunate in that our resort of Hochfugen in the Austrian Zillertal is significantly cheaper than some of the more well known French and Swiss resorts, whilst still offering great skiing, fantastic scenery and the essential après ski experience,” comments Nina.

Redpoint’s short ski breaks start from £261 per adult and £196 per child. The price includes half board accommodation in a four star hotel plus airport transfers when flights are booked through Redpoint. Visit www.redpoint.co.uk or call 0845 680 1214 for more information.
