Cory Monteith’s Double Life NOT Uncommon, Says Psychologist
As more info continues to pour in about Cory Monteith’s passing, the information we know as of now is that Cory died of a heroin overdose after relapsing about a month after leaving rehab.
Cory’s long-term girlfriend and “Glee” co-star Lea Michele apparently had no idea he had relapsed because he kept it hidden so well.
In fact, it’s being reported that Cory truly lived a “double life.” In LA he did “Glee” and was sober, but when he went home to Vancouver, he was shooting heroin.
We couldn’t imagine how someone could keep two worlds so separate, but Dr. Sharon Fried Buchalter, clinical psychologist to the stars (who has not personally treated Cory) tells us it’s completely common for drug addicts to live a double life.
“It is not uncommon for people who are addicted to drugs to lead a ‘double’ life, in fact it is common,” she tells Hollyscoop, “ Most [addicts] reveal nothing to others to avoid being criticized, confronted, or penalized for using. For Cory, being clean in L.A., yet using in Vancouver [means he felt] he had little control, having to resort to dishonest methods to deceive and lie to others, in order to go undetected.”
Dr. Sharon says Cory chose Vancouver as the location for his “secret” life because it acted as his “cover.”
“In order to effectively pull off having his second identity, he needed a good reliable mechanism to use, to cover the devious nature of his second identity. He had to live his second life by lying to others,” says Dr. Fried Buchalter.
