The Variety Club, which also celebrates its Diamond Anniversary throughout 2009, hopes its 18th annual Gold Heart Day will kick start a year of tremendous support and goodwill for this much loved household name.

With an estimated £26,000 a year to bring up a long term disabled child, the purpose of Variety’s 2009 Gold Hearts campaign is to raise public awareness to the massive strain this places on families. The Variety Club aims to sell one million hearts through the year and raise one million pounds enabling the charity to provide tens of thousands of children and young people across the UK with vital equipment that will make a real difference to so many lives.

The campaign, ‘Have a Heart; Help a Child’, hopes to show the public that by buying just one Gold Heart for £1 they can make a hugely positive and lasting impact to the lives of children and young people across the country.

Coleen said:
“The Variety Club is now in its 60th year, and amazingly in that time, the charity has helped almost a million children and young people who are sick, disabled or disadvantaged – and the work goes on! That’s why I’m really happy to support the Variety Club and be a part of Gold Hearts this year. Every penny raised from Gold Hearts gives vital help and support to so many children and their families.
