Half Cameroonian, half German, Berlin resident chuala is a breath of fresh air. Infusing her dual heritage into her music, her just-released EP me and chu is a vibrant illumination of her Cameroonian roots meshed with her Berlin lifestyle. Besides the sonic excitement it provides, the project also stands as chuala’s audio-visual critique on society with singles such as wake up! and FMR injecting direct commentary on capitalism and the patriarchy.
Speaking on the project, chuala explains: “I think in “me and chu” you get to really hear all the different musical influences I have in my life. Although I love conceptual records, I didn’t want to restrict myself when writing. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to just stick to one genre.”
Bringing to life the project and offering a visual tantalization, chuala recruited a number of exciting Berlin creatives who directed and produced music videos for wake up! and FMR. The EP overall is carving its own unique space in the current soundscape and we’re looking forward to hearing more…
